Micro-Chipping In addition to a dog collar Micro-chipping your pet is one of the easiest and least inexpensive ways to ensure the safe return of your lost buddy. As pet owners, we all know unexpected things happen. You open the door and your pet bolts out-heading for the wide open; The utility meter reader opens the gate and your dog races off; Someone goes to leave and your dog squeezes out with them; There's a hole in the screen and your dog finds it before you do, gone; And the worst - hurricanes, tornados, and devastating weather that separates families from pets. Micro-chipping is such a simple procedure. The very tiny chip is inserted by a syringe just under the skin. The chip is encoded with a number that is put into a database along with your name, address, telephone number, and kept on file by the microchip company. There are only a few companies that provide microchips for pets. And animal control, the Humane Society, and many veterinarian clinics have a universal scanner that will pick up all the different company's chips. Call your veterinarian to find out what microchip they offer. Some have a monthly fee attached, and some are a one-time-only charge. It's a simple and inexpensive form of insurance for a member of your family who usually cannot find their way back home. |
